In an effort to stop,it seems, one valve from tapping,What is the valve clearance on an A7 when the engine is hot??. Sorry it's got an alloy head

G'day BSA500.
The book says cold 8 & 12 pre '60 and 8 & 10 for 60 onwards. Depends how hot you get her. I have to run with 10 & 14 in summer and 10 & 12 in winter as the clearance closes up with heat and props the valves open.
So in answer to your ? You only need 2 to 3 thou" when really hot.
