Hi, anyoneknow what part numbers I should be looking for in the box of Smiths "got from who knows where" chrono speedos?
My bike is a 59 A7SS...but what's the general Smith's numbering for BSA types?
Thanks
Many owners get any old chronometric and specify the wheel revs per mile required to an expert restorer of speedos, who then adjusts it so it reads accurately for your bike, so pretty much any speedo will do as a starting point.
If it’s originality you are after (correct part number on dial) a speedo restorer should be able to supply a new dial face with whatever number you want.
Note this does mean there is a possibility any number on a speedo dial is not necessarily a true representation on what is inside the speedo!
Note your required revs per mile will not be std if your final gearing is non std.
I’m pretty sure the info on part numbers for each bike year is already on this forum.
Edit: here’s one thread with info. My 56 gf has sc3305 and (more importantly) 1440 revs per mile
