Speedo and tacho positions.
« on: 29.08. 2018 20:55 »
Bit of a nerd question. On a UK bike am I right in thinking the speedo goes on the right and the tacho goes on the left looking down on them on the bike? I have seen photographs with them each way round.  *conf*

Possibly with the uk driving on the left with speedo on the right with other countries driving on the right with the speedo on the left or the other way round 🤔. Just seems natural to me to have the speedo on the right but am not sure why but my cars speedo and tacho are as above that's probably why it seems natural to be positioned so. 🙄

Tacho should go on the right.
Have a look at original photos.

Tacho on the right makes for a better cable run.

When i bought my RGS it had the tacho on the right but i could not get it to sit at the same angle as the speedo. I changed them round and now they sit perfectly due to the cable lengths. I have been told by various people that both ways are correct but tacho on the left means they sit spot on.

Sounds good to me and I have decided on the tacho on the left

This is one of those questions were there is probably no "Correct" answer. a lot of these were fitted at the dealers, probably by the young "Gofer" who put them on what ever side he grabbed first.  Also as would be the case in the factory at the time of build. Don't get caught up on the smaller details, We have seen many genuine new bikes straight out of crates that aren't "Correct" to the parts book.... Remember these were built in factories punching them out, Not spending 3 days to fit fenders checking everything to the .001" We have a brand new NOS Goldstar scrambler here, never sold from new, we are the first owners, never started.. The frame decal is upside down, Engine pipe is hard against the frame, and has different bolts from one side to another on the fenders... They were never built "perfect"
"Most" would be tach on the left, but its also a case of what you, or the buyer at the time prefers.

Here's two from the original road tests.
Pretty clear to me which is correct.
