I have built six A10 engines with new timing side bushes, reamed by myself. None of these engines have shown any significant wear during use. My black A10 which I have done 10,000 miles on still sounds sweet.

The (very) experienced machinest who did my engines bottom end reckoned the plain bush set up was fine for 100,000 miles for GFs, Super Rockets etc, but engines tuned to give significantly more power and revs than std would benefit from the roller conversion, not so much for longetivity but to avoid blow ups.

John does not know many A10 engines he’s line bored etc, but it’s over a hundred.

I know a guy who did 35,000 Miles on his GF, built by John, and when he had to strip it down (due to cam wear, he didn’t replace that  ) the big ends and mains were “as new” so left them alone and just replaced the cam and followers.

Am probably the last person to comment here due to my mechanical incompetence. Someone has to be a PO. I was told, when i fell into A10 ownership, by someone who had owned British bikes that it was a worthwhile conversion. Lacking confidence in engineering/ maintenance but having decided the bike was a "keeper" i went for the srm work. Have done many miles, had a 19 year lay up,have put the bottom end back together this year (first time i have seen the crank). You spend your money and you takes your choice, i'm happy but would never try to change the mind of all the competent engineers who express opinions here.

'This' is the Vuelta a Cantabria, June version, in Spain a few years ago. One of the best events I have ever done (last year and this and for ever going forwards I hope). I did think that a main bearing upgrade could help in some circs - as the throttle cable on my A was being stretched quite a bit on the mountains to keep up with far more powerful machinery. But my poor humble beast doesn't go like that RGS, not by a country mile, however hard you try to pull the top off the carburettor.

Having had serious trouble due to bad workmanship (the 'experts' here only think they are), would consider a conversion as a good option, voting 'maybe' ftm, with the weight on the 'yes' side.
