kicker quadrant
« on: 27.09. 2018 23:15 »
can't remember if I've seen it on here or elsewhere, whichever I can't find it *dunno* so what is the reason for the flat teeth on some quadrants and pointy ones on others. I found some with pointy and flat whilst ratting about but all my ratchet teeth are pointy, I am sure some of you wise ones will know.{ please don't say wear or I will be forced to go to the PUB *countdown*} I am  *conf2*

Dunno where you looked, but am also sure it's here somewhere, and I may be wrong, but I think the wares with pointies are early ones and the wares with flats are later.... *dunno*

See- I did good hey  *smile*

I think the change came with the adoption of a one piece quadrant/shaft  and different ratchet pinion in 1955.

Yeahbut- Julian, I'm aware I may be somewhat dyslexic, but unless we have a box apart to look at, that chart doesn't much explain which came first...chicken or egg/pointy or flat...?. *conf2* *dunno*

Dont know the difference in the pinions

I am going to the pub *countdown*, there is also a two piece variation with pointy teeth, I found an assortment in a box but could not find a flat tooth ratchet to match the flat tooth quadrants only pointy this is what confused me  *sad*. I am happy now that the flat tooth must match with the flat tooth ratchet pinion as in  the photo  *thanks* *good3* greybeard sorry about that was it doing your head in *bash* oooops looks like all the ratchet pinions are the SAME part number

Which ever you fit they should be pointy teeth quadrant to pointy teeth pawl, or flat teeth quadrant to flat teeth pawl. Job sorted.

When opening my gearbox on a 1955 Golden Flash plunger my quadrant and pinion is of same model as in duTch picture.
(quadrant flat tooth and pinion pointy tooth)

Been told that the flat type quadrant was used on plunger and pointy ones on swing arm.
Got a new pointy tooth pinion (67-3168) and will see tomorrow if it works.
