I I am trying to work out sealing the generator. I have left over in the full engine set set one large cork gasket that is not a breather one  (abouty 2 ins+) and a  cork smaller one about 1 inch.

Does the large gasket go in the Lucas adapter where the generator pus in and is then secured by the strap ( the round plate at the drive end of the generator)s up??

I can't seem to find any illustration in the parts books at all..... how many gaskets and where?

 Peter,

There is a cork gasket that goes between the generator and the inner timing cover.

Goes in the recess at the end of the dynamo. Basically, just pressed by hand force between dynamo and inner timing cover. It's more of a cushioning pad than seal, because the dynamo drive compartment shouldn't have oil in it.

The small one fits behind the dynamo drive sprocket to assist keeping oil from entering the dynamo drive chain chamber. Although there is a scrolled bush also fitted on the inner timing cover that should prevent oil getting through.

As mugwump states it goes behind the dynamo drive sprocket. BSA actually call it an oil seal and the BSA part number is 67-708

Is it leather? Seems like a good idea. It should work as goos as a cushion as the cork.

I have been to the pub---again, *beer* anyway when the pully on the dynamo didn't sit far enough on the taper, I just couldn't be arsed to open the pully up *bright idea*, so i used a steam joint gasket that I thought would come in handy one day *clap* *yeah* { don't throw it away you might need it}  and put that behind the cork one to line things up , if I hadn't have found that it would have been  layers of cornflake box ,like in old days *sleepy*
