FWH 8" front brake plate
«

I thought I'd remove the bits from a spare front brake plate I have, clean it up and and repaint it and swap it over during an overhaul of my front forks this winter. When I removed the old shoes I noticed the four steady lugs had been removed (not very neatly) by a previous owner (see arrows on photo). It looks like they have just been broken or knocked off. My guess is in an attempt to eleviate some sort of brake noise.
Would there be another reason? Anybody got any ideas?

G'day Roger.
I'd guess that the PO tried to put wider shoes in.
Cheers

You can use Triumph shoes from the 1967/67 single leading shoe 8 inch brake on that brake plate to go with the wide brake surface A65 hub with verticle flange but you have to shorten the lugs to do so.

Thanks chaps, yes of course, for wider shoes, I never considered that.

Photoshop with arrow ended lines then apply a drop shadow effect.

Sorry, maybe I should have explained. Without wishing to go off topic, I use a graphics programme called Serif PagePlus, import the photo, add arrows to the photo, copy them and paste (so I have two sets), change colour of one set to black, position the white set on top of black and export the lot as a picture (.jpg).

Were you also involved in mocking up the Apollo moon landings to make it look like they really happened?
