Wanted A10 Alloy head
« on: 10.10. 2018 19:53 »
Hi
I am looking for an A10 alloy head for my SR engine. I would like to find one in great condition with not a lot of work required.
Also need a primary chain case cover.
Happy to pay good price for the right bits
Best
Phil

Hi Brett
Thanks for the reply, parts look good but need to consider shipping and import to UK. I will get back to you.

Hi All,
Brett,
That complete s/h head looks to have had the "Gold Star" valve spring conversion ??

I came across this twin carbed head on eBay USA
https://www.ebay.com/itm/BSA-Genuine-Vintage-A10-TWIN-DUAL-T10-GP-1-CARB-PERFORMANCE-CYLINDER-HEAD/223180171906?hash=item33f6932a82:g:7PsAAOSw2tNbuqBY:rk:1:pf:0

Nice welding job  converting it *good3*

John
What is the valve spring conversion? I noted the valve top caps are not what I would expect for this head assembly.

G'day Phil.
I had to do similar when fitting larger A10SR valves into my 54 A7SS head. I found if the standard SR collars and cotters were used the springs would coil bind. I used the SR cotters but machined the taper in the A7 collars to the correct angle for the SR cotters.

Hi Phil,
The valve spring conversion was a tuning mod back in the day offered by Eddy Dow (for one)
Gold Stars use "Alloy" top collars (weight reduction)
From memory the bottom collars are reversed to fit the smaller diameter springs
There should be several topics about this on the forum ??
or Google brings up this as a first hit
eborbikes.com/docs/Fitting_notes/Fitting notes for Gold Star valve springs conversion.pdf

The head linked to looks to have steel top collars though? maybe a half way conversion???
Or non SR components fitted  *????* *????*
I have heard that GS springs are also used on C15/B40 but not sure about that  *conf2*
