Un reinforced oil lines

Getting to the point with my 58 SR where I'm reattaching the oil tank and sadly the existing oil lines are kaput. It occurs to me though that my B44 just used ordinary rubber oil line with no external steel braid or reinforcement so do I actually need it on tye Super Rocket?

    Slymo, in a word, no.   The pressures are low enough not to need a braided outer for support. Any modern corded construction hydraulic hose will be more than adequate.  Even car fuel injection hose from your local motor spares shop will do. Braiding looks nice, and most replacement hoses are braided. Or just take your fittings to a handy hydraulic hose supplier and get them to knock you up a nice custom set.

Typically, the hoses added to route to and from an oil filter installaton are corded rubber and work fine. I'm thinking the spiral steel wrap around stock oil lines is more for protection against abraision than oil pressure. The old sets I've seen have had significant abrasion marks.

That's right Richard, The steel on the outside is called "Armour" on these lines, and is to de exactly that... Stop any external damage, not done for high oil pressure.

I would suggest SAE 100 R6 hydraulic hose.  400PSI working pressure and suited for 212 degree working temp.  Avoid EPDM hose as it will soften and swell over time.  Nitrile works best for oil.  A lot of hose has a slick outer cover with a with a printed lay line.  A scuffing with a scotchbrite pad will remove the printing and give it a more vintage look.  Works great for fuel lines.

A few years ago Draganfly sold them (with fittings and armour) for what I thought was a very cheap price, might be worth a check with them?

Decades ago i switched to steel braid covered teflon tube and I would not fit anything else.
Got them made with a slip fitting on one end & fixed on the other so not they go on & come off dead easy.
