Cheers duTch, yes, a different arrangement but undoubtedly it's there to do the same job.

Jim, my GF was first registered 18 Jan 1960, so will have been manufactured in 1959. I believe BSA started rolling out their 1960 models mid 59 (not exactly sure but in June - July time, so if yours is a later in the year model it would have the two piece pipe.

And Angus, thanks for that, I was beginning to believe I was imagining it, or was the only one with that model.

No help at all but my Ariel Huntmaster, (about 1958 vintage) had the rubber tube.
