I'm sure that this spring is so strong it would rip all the spokes out using that method.. *eek*   I kid you not... it's super strong...    *pull hair out*

Is there a EASY method to replace the centre stand spring on a plunger?   *????* *doubt*

I tried all the various methods, but eventually gave up and made this. It works well enough to have been borrowed. The design is specific to the spring/stand (edit: swing arm) to ensure you can stretch the spring and then slip the ends over the 2 attachment points.

Some springs take a lot of force to stretch em  *work*

Edit: to get an idea of the scale, I used 10mm threaded rod, the nuts are 16mm across flats.

Hi Wozza,
The first time I did it was on a Commando, you could hang the World on one of those springs *eek*
Keep the wire tight to the rim, so pressure will not bend the spokes

 Ok so I lost sleep overnight on this, and as I have nothing better to do today than fix more things that I've not yet broken *work* *work*, I figured I better check my (false) facts..... first- the last thing I discovered is the spring is *SHORTER* in the *DOWN* position..... after I took the spring off and measured it... like I said, it broke so I bodged it and in the down position is actually swinging loose (as per pics) *note  to self/ shorten *, and is about 15mm longer than yours and I had a feeling that I first did it in the' down' position.... which makes it easier to use my ruler method (In theory)

Have a '74 850T Moto Guzzi since '92-best thing I ever bought doesn't need a kickstart 'cos it bump starts sooooooooo(mostly) easy

still easier to get the springs off with the 'washer method'

jappa  as in off a japanese bike from a wrecker. in place of the stretched a10 spring. its wider gauge than the original so i hope it doesn't fall off the upper peg. 3/8" shorter at rest

 *smile*  I spent a couple of hours in the shed today making EXACTLY the same type as Mikes.   and also discovered the previous owner had welded the side stand fixing point on backwards.  *dunno* It folded FORWARD but only came a short distance backwards.. *problem*

Mike will that jappa spring stretch to 185mm that is what it has to do for my A10 SA?

so far it appears ok - see pic. when on stand (as in the pic) its stretched to about 160mm, so i guess is a little longer temporarily when putting the bike on the stand. it only went on today so only a few test trials to comment on - it isn't deformed yet and it holds the stand much firmer to the frame when up than the proper a10 spring did. again, this is a swing arm a10 (sorry if this is becoming a thread hijack)
i asked the wrecker for a honda 500/4 spring and he gave me a box of random springs to rummage through. so no idea what its from. time will tell if it lasts the distance.
and the spring stretcher above made it easy to fit
