shimming the camshaft
« on: 18.12. 2018 00:09 »
Just put the cam pinion on, the shaft end-floats about 0.010". Thinking it may be quite rattly in service. Is shimming practical where there is relative movement like this? The shim would have to go behind the cam pinion (I dont want to strip the bottom end right down again for this). Where can I get suitable shims, does anybody sell them?

Thanks

Steve,

Looking at the attached link, note cork gasket 67-134. This is available in different thicknesses to take the end play out of the camshaft. When you buy a gasket set you get multiple thicknesses (at least I did). Not sure about getting  multiple thicknesses when buying one-off.

No mate- that endfloat is taken up by the cork behind the breather tophat, so that's where you may need different thickness cork- i just used gasket paper behind my cork

Edit: Richard got I  while I was tapping....
Is worth having a look down the pushrod tunnel with no lifters fitted and ensure the cam is centred
