I'm building a 51 Plunger and it is definitely, I think, NOT a part for that bike.

If one of the holes is a nice fit on the shok bolt then most likely it was a bracket for fitting a rack or pannier frame.
Remember peple used to ride these things for transport so had to be able to carry things like a slide rule & note pad.

Started building in about 1977/8 a on average '52 A10 -built from bits 'n pieces never resto intended -maybe 'personalised'
Have a '74 850T Moto Guzzi since '92-best thing I ever bought doesn't need a kickstart 'cos it bump starts sooooooooo(mostly) easy

I found a photo of the frame when it arrived and the part was on the top of the near side plunger mount at the point where the lifting handle attaches. God knows what it supported. Probably a carrier which had disappeared. Thanks for the head scratching.

When you inhabit the rarified world of "catalogue correct " bikes it is some tims difficult to get your ead arond thawhen tese were daily transport people put non standard things on them.

Every BSA I have ever owned save the WM20 & WD B40 had a gear sack fitted and usually a frame for throw overs as well.
