Wheel Hub Thickness?

Hi one and All,

I have a spare Full Width Iron Front Hub, Type 7, part No. 42-5805, and I want to build a new wheel with it, but before I go to all the work and expense I want to check that it has not been skimmed too many times. What is the best way to measure this? And doe's anyone know what the thickness is/was on a brand new un skimmed one?

Looking at my pictures of how I measured it, I find 13.15 mm, and is the same on one of my A10s so I'm guessing/hoping this has not been skimmed.

What are your thoughts? There must be a limit to how much you can take off before the hub collapses.

 I'd have just thought to measure the ID of the drum...

 ps- I'm no grammatician, but there's no apostrophe in 'does'

I had thought of measuring across the diameter but need a tool to do so, but then the bearing house is in the way to put a ruler across.

... sorry about my bad grammar, just can't see these things sometimes. Crazy, as I even went to a Grammar school, long time ago though.

 I guess the only way is to bang the axle out of the way...?

 I think that's called an oxymoron.... ....is a bit confusing, because when "does not" becomes "doesn't", it has the apostrophe

Hi LJ, I recently had my FWH skimmed.
The machinist had to take 0.3mm out to get it round again.
I didn’t take any measurements because both me and the machinist judged enough meat left.
By the look of your pictures mine had less material left than yours so if I where you I’d go for it.
Just lace up and true the wheel first. It’s the only way to make sure you won’t pull the hub out of round again after the skimming.
