That would be the plank you carry to stop the side stand digging into the mud then.

The lugs are worn on mine making the bike sit lower and the rear wheel sits on the floor.  To stop this, I actually lift the bike onto its stand onto a plank of wood, which would suggest making it harder??  Whilst it is heavy, I find this is fine if I pull up on the rear mudguard stay whilst standing with all my weight on the 'curly bit'.  I'm a bit younger than some of you guys, but still only 12.5 stone.

As for the stand creating a dent in my l/h silencer, I'm going to drill the frame lugs circular and put a suitable bolt through it, securing the nut with a bit of loctite and/or a split pin or similar.  Nut will be tightened up a bit to stop the stand 'bouncing' over potholes and making me wince when the stand smacks the silencer again.  Left hand cornering is horrible, and once sent me to the other side of the road.  Would like another solution but my sidestand collapsed (probably from India, it was made of cheese).

G'day worty.
Thanks for reminding me. I did that many years ago on both my plunger and s/a. Now I have time I'll make up inserts for the frame holes to bring back to std. I'll post sizes and pics when done.
Cheers

worty you will have to lock the stand up to stop it bouncing ,i think you need a proper new strong spring, an old 70's trick was to fit a 500 four yonda spring, it worked on mine

I like the idea of 'bushes' or inserts for the enlarged frame holes to bring it back to standard - any sizes and tips very welcome Musky.  I think my problem is the stand pivots back further than it did when new because the holes have elongated - providing just the right amount of 'give' to smack the silencer.  I'll have a look for the Yonda spring Bergs.  I do still have the old sidestand spring which was new - would that do the trick??

Used pliers before someone mentioned the spring on, bolt in spring side then pull over until the bolt can be walloped all the way.  Are you sure it's five inches mate, seems long compared to some other items??

worty just a thought your bike is later than mine and they changed stands and springs so my information is most probably no good to you  *problem* as usual  ;)
