B33 crankshaft spacer
« on: 02.06. 2019 18:05 »
I'm assembling a B33 engine and thought there was no lateral play in the crankshaft. However, when I tightened the primary crush drive to the shaft, its pulling the crankshaft against the primary drive shaft crankcase ( I assume) and stopping it turning.
I'm assuming this because I've missed a spacer or one is needed. Where would the space go? Or have I done something else wrong?  I don't have a lot of experience with cranks etc, this is the second or third one I've assembled.
Any advice and / or diagrams would be greatly appreciated!
Many thanks
Guy

Guy, I understand that the crank is being drawn through the two main bearings and catching on the crankcase inner.  Head over to Draganfly, the parts diagram shows a locating circlip 65-2240, an outer ball race and an inner roller race, with a tubular spacer 66-660 between them. This spacer is either missing or is too short, wrong or damaged.

Looks as if the outer ball race locates the crank and controls any crank float, and if the bearing is a good one there will be no lateral movement at all. I could be wrong, but that's how I see it.

 Swarfy.

Swarfy! Brilliant ! thank you! I have that spacer in my tray still.. I was wondering what it was and I'd missed it on the diagram..Great its on primary side as I can spit the crank without dismantling the time side,
I owe you !

Hi Guy and All
If that spacer is a bit worn the crank will still bind when the cush drive is tightened (65ft/lbs)
From memory it is 1.000in. long
The crank should have c 0.010in. end float before the cush drive  is tightened up

Been there *sad2*

G'day Guy.
All the above advice and make sure the wavy oil slinger washer is not chewed out where the bearing is pulled up tight against it. They as well as the between bearing spacer get worn & hammerd buy cush drive nuts coming loose.

thank you Ironhead... all noted with thanks. This forum is quicker than looking up the question in the index of the manual (which I don't have..)
All the best
