Yes, the effect of an air filter will be to affect the carb settings.  ;)

Will it need re-jetting, just screw adjustment or raise the needle a notch?

It might not need rejetting/weaker slide/raise needle, best to try it with the filter and see how it goes.

I use one of these S and B filters on my A10 and after fitting only needed air screw adjustment. Need an adaptor which they will also supply.

Hi Julian. Does that filter have a card or foam insert? Is it a fine wire mesh only?

Generally speaking, with an air filter you reduce the main jet by a size or two.

Looking at the fitment chart it states, no good for 650s. how does it cope on your A10 ?

Hitchcocks are Royal Enfield dealers ., as well as Amal suppliers and I think the detail in the fitting guide refers to Royal Enfields and whether the filter will actually fit in the space available on those bikes.

It fits fine on the A10 and it has done many thousands of miles with one fitted.

Photo shows S and B on my A10.

Cannot tell what the mesh enclosed element material is.

Can I ask if anyone has used an air filter on an Amal 276 carb on an A10 plunger? I have the original filter which I believe can be washed out with petrol, or similar, but I was wondering if it might be better to replace it with a modern equivalent. I'll can buy a new rubber that joins the air filter to the carb from Jeff Hunter in Birmingham.

Simon- is probably best to buy the rubber and wash the filter, 'cos from my perspective anything else will just cause you grief.... and that's assuming you have a stock iron head
Started building in about 1977/8 a on average '52 A10 -built from bits 'n pieces never resto intended -maybe 'personalised'
Have a '74 850T Moto Guzzi since '92-best thing I ever bought doesn't need a kickstart 'cos it bump starts sooooooooo(mostly) easy

Simon, as a note of caution I would not put any solvent on your original filter, as there is a good chance  something like petrol or paraffin will soften any 1950's adhesive and it will fall to bits. A good soak in a strong detergent should do the job. A cheap alternative is to make your own filter backing plate and use a cut down modern filter, butchered to fit and any gaps sealed with silicone. Not for the purists, but a workable solution if you have a poor element. Space on a plunger is a bit tight, so keep the original hideaway filter set up if you can.

The filter box is the same for A7 and A10 plunger engines, but the rubber connectors differ in detail to suit the different motors, namely in elbow position and outlet diameter.

Maybe my old filter could go through the dishwasher when my wife is, eh, out for the day?  *smiley4*
