any pics of oil filter under right swingarm?

Hi Chaps, I know its not an exact response to the question but I have just come back from a vintage meet and seen a RGS/A10 with a HI De Hi filter attached to the front of the engine. It was held in place by four slots cut into the dynamo cover between the down tubes and a couple of worm drive straps. It was a bit obtrusive but it looked a simple installation regards the pipework, the upper right angled connection pipe ran down between the engine/dynamo and the right frame. A 90 elbow was needed from the crankcase return union. Sorry, no pictures but you get the idea.

 on Bender I run a compact filter in front of the back wheel, I've just given steve a spare one, he's taken the filter off his SR which was in the toolbox and possibly contributed to his wet sumping/oil return issues so has been taken off for the time being.

likewise below the swing arm on my a10 Tim, as per previous page from a few years ago. but i'm not super happy with how I've run the oil lines so always looking for better ideas. it currently comes down to copper tube with tight bends and jubilee clamps onto the filer head. I live in some fear that one day my lines may fall off and maybe kill the engine and/or dump the contents on the back tyre

I copied orabanda and machined a suitable aluminium filter head and used 1/4 bsp fittings( straight and a 90deg). Bent up/welded a bracket to suit, and used the original engine to tank hose to the filter head. A short hose with a 90deg and straight for filter to tank. For this one I will copy orabanda and make aluminium crimp ferules to get rid of the hose clamps.

All mower filters are around 25 micron with around 10psi bypass valve & anti drain back valves
The yellow ( high capacity ) ones have 1/3 more paper in them but are not really value over the standard black ones unless you want to run 3 years between oil changes.

The smallest  mower filter is the MTD one which is 2.675" dia x 2.125" tall if you are really pressed for space threaded 3/4-16 NPT
MTD No 951-12690 They are about 2/3 the price of the Briggs short Std or 1/2 the price of the Briggs extended life you are using now.

All the rest are 3" diameter and the shortest is the Briggs short you are currently using
3" dia x 2.75 height threaded 3/4 - 16 NPT

For metric then the smallest is the Honda 15400-PLM-A02
At 2.625" dia x 2.5" high
Threaded 20 x 1.5 mm
Being Honda naturally it uses a finer screen at 20 micron

Only slightly larger is the Honda 15400-PLM-A01
2.6875" dia x 3" high.
This is what goes into all of the industrial equipment like skid steers ,tow motors, mini excivators, fork lifts etc
It is 27 micron threaded 20 x 1.5mm

All of the above are very common thus not particularly expensive and most can be bought from after market suppliers in 12 packs which makes them cheap enough to be changed monthly.

I use the metal pipe clips as per the attached pic, cheap and easy to crimp using nail removing pliers and better looking than jubilee clips.

 Good info Trev- I guess that clarifies the confusion a while ago about the Noturn/Citroen type filters/ heads, which are M16/1.5, i might look into tracking down one of the above Briggs heads for looksee, do you have the part numbers for the head bit ?

Here's what I did on my '48 A7.
Homemade filter base clamped onto seat downtube with a U bolt. Datsun 180B filter nipple welded to a thick washer, thread size is 3/4" x 16 TPI. The oil filter is a Z386 which is 65mm diameter, 75mm long, $6, and readily available at car parts shops.

Back on topic now... For the Super Rocket I fitted a RGM filter in the toolbox. I buy the Norton oil filters from Feked (or RGM) when other parts are sent out, as this is expedient.

The latter being some what more BSA riders prices

On  few machines where space is tight they use the universal 4 port heads with 2 blanking plugs so the oil comes in one side & exits the other.
As already seen you can make a head from any lump of metal that is flat or can be made flat.
