The linings look good enough for reuse to me? good old ones are a lot better than most replacements
Why do you want to change them ?

Hello John,

actually 1 of the linings shows severe cracks around the rivets on leading side, so I won't take the risk.

Hello Gentlemen,

After a lazy winter, I started to take it apart completly.
I found an odd "bracket" under the tank.
It looks very much not original, more like the remainings of a weldet on washer.

What do you think?

I think you should find two of these on the down tube or under the tank for a handpump.

You lucky so and so *ex* that is a really nice twin leading shoe brake, more than likely an Eddy Dow version.

Your spot on there John. It the 8inch one he made for the A7/A10. Had one years ago and lent it to a friend for his racing bike. Fecker sold the bike with my brake on it. I never got it back and was never paid for it either. *angry*

It's a pump bracket, Norbert.
The other one is part of the gusset for the swinging arm.

These guys are the real 'salt of the Earth' Norbert.  There isn't anything they don't know - unfortunately, I'm not one of them.  *sad2*

By the way, did my pre ride season checks today in the gorgeous sunshine.  Drained off sump to put back in oil tank, checked all oil levels, spark plug gap, points gap, cleaned all maggie connections, pumped tyres up, adjusted chain, thorough hand clean and fire up.  Took a few kicks this time (nearly six months standing) but sounded beautiful. *smile* *beer* *beer* *beer*

Really looking to get out there and forget all the troubles of this world! *woo* *woo*

That looks a good site. Their prices for BSA brake shoes with modern materials are very reasonable. Will use them to get new shoes for my A7 SS. *yeah*

Thats just lovely...all there and original pipes too...Havent found a pattern pipe yet that has that smooth bend.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Due to the Corona pandemie, my employer forced me to work from home. As this gave me the oportunity to spend much more time in the garage, the bike is back on its wheels again, much earlier than expected. So next is to prepare the gearbox.
Tomorrow I will post some new status pics.

Today I did take apart 3 Gearboxes I purchased over the last 2 decades, - and guess what I found!
All 3 have worn layshafts. There is one I would call "borderline" to be re-used without regrind, but as I don't want to waste time and effort I would like to replace the layshaft for a new one. There are offers for NOS with a bit of surface corrosion and new replicas made in UK.
Prices are not so different between 130 and 170£.

Someone has experience and can give advise wich is better?
I do tend to the NOS, but if the replicas are made to todays standards they should be better!?!

Any educated advise is very much apreciated!

Re layshaft - as the bush will need replacing also, why not get the worn area ground until it's clean and then make a bush to suit? That's the usual trick and I did it to my boxes that had scored / worn layshafts. Last one I did was actually bent as well. Dunno how that occurred, but I was a little worried about straightening it, not being aware of the hardening process. If they are through hardened, there is a risk they'll snap, but I managed to avoid that.
