DGR world wide A10 / A7 riders

I remember last year there was a world wide BSA A10 / A7 DGR ride... I registered my name last year and can't remember any details.. Does anyone remember it?
I have currently raised slightly less than its costing me to do the ride..but who cares? The riding is priceless..

I can't recall anyone mentioning it this year. Unfortunately I won't be able to attend (will be severely hung over from my b/day party). Maybe GB or RichardL will see this and get it going.

Cheers Muskrat, Happy hangover for the 29th... I've registered on the DGR - I've ridden every year since it started - my question was to a world wide  A10 A7 register of riders participating in the DGR.. I think it was Grey Beard or Richard who put me onto it last year.. I can't remember... I should search the posts...

I believe RichardL set up that international group for this forum. It's good to hear that you were enthused, but, the apparent take-up from forum members is very poor; it's rather disheartening!

I'm not sure if I will do the ride this year; I find it rather a rat race of mostly modern bikes racing past, leaving me in their smoke and getting lost! I gave up the ride half way through last year because I didn't know where the main peleton had gone. 

I also do not seem to get sponsorship from my fairly small group of friends and family.

Thanks GB, I seem to remember you getting very wet as well... We are small group in Kenya - maybe 10 to 15 riders and start on Saturday with an over night at a bar or campsite depending on how much time you spend in one or the other... we aim to have a much fun as possible. Our ride concludes at the Kenya Classic car show - where there is also a bar... I will aim to be distinguished, but no promises... anyone is very welcome to join us.
I have an 80's BMW R80 GS that would make the trip and available

I plan to ride, but so busy that I've not taken the time to set up a "World Wide Ride Team" for forum members. As GB has noted, the interest on the forum is basically pathetic and apathetic. I hate to think about how many of our 1107 members have been diagnosed with prostate cancer since we started talking-up the DGR. Anyway, if I get a chance, I might set up the team just to keep the flag flying, but not sure right now.

I will deffo be on the ride, even if A10 lets me down. Means alot to me on a personal level. The guy who organises it here at Bristol (UK) is a legend. It does cause some upset that people turn up with no sponsorship. However i try not to moan about that. The way i see it if i'm not prepared to go around with a bucket and guilt trip them to their faces then what's the point of complaining? Also am waiting for an invite to Musky's bash the night before so may be in a bit of a state!

In fairness, I reckon a lot of members are not reading the non-technical sections of this forum. So, are not aware of the plea to join the DGR. Many members may be DGRing without mentioning it here.

The BSA A7/A10 Forum Team is set up. Just search "forum" on the DGR website. 

As I mentioned in my "The Most Technical Thing.." post, I believe DGR should require a minimum registration fee. This would help reduce the number of non-conforming bikes (read, "HD hogs") on the rides. I thought I'd share the text of my recent email with DGR admin:

 

Hi Richard,

Good to hear from you. No problem to change this. All fixed up now.

Regarding the minimum donation this is a very good point. We trialled it in 3 cities last year and expanded it to 25 this year to see the impact of it. So far it has been received very positively exactly for the reasons noted. Keeps the ride more manageable as it keeps the incorrect bike guys who don't donate anyway from signing up and also increases fundraising.

We will roll this out to Chicago and more cities next year.

Late in the game and coming when you are very busy, but, per my request from the last three rides, can you change the ride name for BSA A7/A10 FORUM team to "World-Wide Rides"?

Now, to beat an old drum. I know I am just one vote, but my vote is for changing the policy to require a minimum donation for registration. I sincerely doubt it will seriously reduce the number of riders or event publicity. My friends on the A7/A10 Forum are complaining about their rides being overwhelmed by bikes that don't fit the description (new Harley hogs, for example), and the Chicago ride is no exception. That alone, I think, is not too bad until you realize that most of them have probably donated nothing.

I'll motion this with our group too.. We spend a considerable amount in proportion to the funds raised with our support vehicle, preparing our bikes and over night accommodation etc, so a minimum donation seems reasonable if not mandatory..
We have a very remote official start point https://goo.gl/maps/nLuHdUoLMKu863vFA although we all meet a further 40 km down the in the desert at Magadi the night before, so no opportunists really to speak of..
