67-4036 Front engine plate insert

Quick question.

Does part 67-4036 (Front engine plate insert) fit between the engine mounting frame lugs and act as a fancy spacer shaped to match the profile of the mounting plates?

I expect a suitable piece of tube would do the job as a temporary measure?

  Believe it or not, there is one listed today on the eBay UK site, which judging by the price is made from some rare earth precious metal. Search Vintage BSA Plunger Twin Front Engine Plate Spacer as I am not cute enough to post a direct link.

   The part  is basically a steel pressing to give a fancy profile, welded onto a spacer tube. Easy to make something that looks original, either fabricated or carved from solid.

It sounds silly but check that you haven't done the same.

I'm trying to think, and and I would be interested if anyone else has any ideas, about how to collect/collate all the useful information here in the forum. It is here but can be difficult to find through searches on the forum.
Does anyone have any ideas?  A database or thread with categories for the different bits of the bike? A thread linking useful information in other threads to each bike component?
Just trying to think of a useful way to organise the huge amount of information and experience on here.

Adrian - I really struggle with this site's search engine. Takes me ages to find anything and most times I get nowhere. Maybe we need a search engine with categories - eg for name in title (eg rear brake) another category could be words in thread (eg slack chain) and another relating to the period (eg posted last week, last six months or don't know). In other words. bit like the search facility with Microsoft XP. Would certainly help. Otherwise I don't think things could be generally categorised better than they already are. I'm just thinking how easy it is to find items on some sites (eg Feked or CDSG) and a nightmare on others (eg government sites).

When I bought my SR it had just been rebuilt and never ridden so I went over it with a fine toothed comb. These spacers were made up from what looked like pieces of old TV antenna and were barrel shaped after being tightened. Needless to say I made up some steel spacers.
Fortunately the PO did not rebuild the engine or gearbox

PS Just realised that this is a plunger - mine is a S/A but still has spacers.

For some reason the S/A plates often end up with the spacer tubes bent or missing. The design means the tubes just need a small tack weld to hold them on the plates prior to assembly into the frame, where they are held sandwiched  between the plates by the frame through studs.
 So my guess is the work study department timed the job for a nice strong weld with attention to the more awkward areas, set the rate for that and then the welders on piece work knocked them out like machine gun bullets with the minimum time and weld spent on each.
