Engine dates

A lot of BSA engines have a date stamped into them. Sometimes around the front right side of the crancase and particularly on the plunger models inside the primary case alongside the primary chain tensioner.

My question being does anyone know exactly at what stage of production did BSA stamp this date in.

Thats an early one Richard, is it your plunger or the rigid ?

This is the date stamping I am interested in. What I am trying to find out is exactly when it is stamped. ie when cases are machined or maybe upon assembly of the engine.

I just bought another plunger model A10, pick it up tomorrow. Unrestored and definitely a basket case, probably going to need several baskets to put all the pieces in !

That's the plunger; the rigid also has a date stamped.
