Amal carb selection
« on: 19.10. 2019 13:15 »
Hi All
Does anyone have any advice on which Amal carb to fit to my engine.
The engine is a 1960 650 A10 but with an A7 head re profiled  to match the larger 650 bore.
The engine has standard A7 valves, 356 cam and flat top pistons.
Head inlet port measures 1.060
I have a 389/45 1-1/8 and 389/15 1-5/32 carbs available to me and need to decide either to use one of those with the correct jetting what ever that may be or look for something else

The nearest carb to fit that bore size would be the carb for the 1959 Gold Flash which is a 376/214. main jet 240. pilot jet 25. needle jet 106. needle position 3. throttle valve 376/06035. This is assuming it is an iron head if it is an alloy head in which case a 376/97. main jet 250. pilot jet 25. needle jet 106. needle position 4 throttle valve 376/0635. For your info the needle position given is the number groove from the top of the needle. Both these carbs have a 1 1/16 bore which is very close to your bore size of 1.060"
