Hi all,
I’m hoping that someone will have a photo to show me an original seat base for a Shooting Star please. My bike is a ‘55 model...did the base stay the same through the years?

I’d like to replace the base on my bike...made of fibreglass or plastic, can’t recall which, but it flex’s when riding two up and hits the rear mudguard, this chipping the paint!

By the way, if I struggle to pick up a genuine base, can anyone recommend a seller that provides a seat with a metal base which has a shape and cover as close to the original as possible.

Yes, Leightons.

Unfortunately, Leightons are not able to supply a metal base...I’ve been waiting for about 18 months but they’ve had problems with their base suppliers.

tommo - if your seat base is fibreglass, your best option is to add another 2 or 3 layers of glassfibre. Could do the same with plastic, but might need a few pop rivets as security to prevent it peeling off that shiny plastic.

Thanks RD, yes, that is an option, but I'd still prefer to go down the route of a metal base if possible. It seems that reproduction seats are out there (with metal bases) but I've no idea how close to original these are, hence my question.

the 55's have the narrow seat pan common to most goldstars. later bikes have a much wider pan, more comfy but IMHO less stylie, mines in a storage unit or I'd send a picture
