Some suggestions for Anthony's Pandora's box of mods...

Bronze bush replacements for the silentblocs in the swinging arm. Mostly to overcome poor quality in newly manufactured parts.

Also, has anyone mentioned Dow type damping 'valves' for the front forks? Or progressive springs?

And what about modern sealed bearings for the hubs?

Never mind the myriad stainless bits, nuts and bolts!

Is there a balance to keep here – between what makes it a more reliable/ridable A7/A10 vs when does it stop being an A7/A10. Fit a Suzuki clutch, Suzuki front end, 2x belt drives, TT gearbox, a million SRM good things, shocks front and back, athlon, BTH, DVR2, LEDs, thunder rods, bronze swing arm bushes, modern rims. Or just buy a modern? We’ll each have our own answer to this.

When I start scheming too much about how to make my B33 faster and corner better I sometimes try and remind myself that I love it because of what it is and isn’t

There is a lot to be said for not overcapitalising all bikes. Its quite possible to make the old six spring clutch work reliably with a bit of effort and there is satisfaction in that.  My race engine takes a lot of abuse so I spend a lot of money on it which it absorbs while staying together. Given I recall an SRM oil pump is currently around 300GBP we're not talking peanuts to do a decent or full rebuild.
On a good sporting road A10 what would I do to the engine? clean the sludge trap, assess the wear and replace as little as possible. Then I'd keep the oil clean, ponder reliable electrics (my personal kryponite) and use it.
On my super rocket I did upgrade the front brakes as I dont rate the 8" SLS FWH from 58-63
My 54 RR was very tired so has had to have a rebore and crank grind but will still have a plain bush crank. Havent decided which clutch it'll get, might keep the six spring or fit a BNR (worlds apart!)

I have been extremely impressed by my race belt drive primary.

I went up one tooth on the gearbox sprocket and highly recommend that mod, less revs at 100k's.

Elongating the magneto flange holes to allow for final ignition timing adjustment.

I changed the engine sprocket because IIRC, changing the gearbox sprocket upsets the speedo.

Can't do that on  a Plungie cos you cannot buy the duplex engine sprockets. I had the speedo recalibrated.

I know nothing about plungies but there are some duplex sprockets here.

Plungers, just like swing arm & rigid A 10's have a cush drive on the primary.
The plunger was unique amongst BSA's in using a duplex cush drive .
All of the duplex sprockets with splines are for latter engines with a cush in the clutch.

And triplex in overseas versions I think.

Gearbox sprocket nut with oil seal.
Although only available for SA models, highly recommended. No more oily rear tyre
