More Allen Millyard goodness

Allen Millyard says:

Happy Christmas everyone, I’ve found a great way to burn off the Christmas dinner and puddings 🤔Cutting, milling and filing a pair of cylinders blocks and heads to fit my 73 Kawasaki Z1 super six. A bit of cleaning, jigging, weld prep and a lot of welding to do now to join all the parts together seamlessly as one 😎

Clearly a very talented engineer with a love of his hobby. What I don’t get is how you join engines together by welding. There’ll be lots of places you can’t get to plus the problem of distortion, even with TIG. I’d go for patterns and new castings (except for the bolt-on bits such as cylinders and heads where appropriate).

Update from AM:
'Made a bit more progress on my Z1 Super Six today. The crankcases are finished so I decided to make the crankshaft next, so I first stripped down two Z900 cranks worked out how to reassemble it at 120 degrees then pressed it up together. The crank spins freely in the upturned upper case and has great static balance 😎'

'This afternoon I’ve been cutting up camshafts, accurately drilling and boring holes for a tight interferance fit with H2 gudgen pins. Once all mating holes are finish bored the cam lobes will be re timed for the six cylinder engine, pressed together and welded.'

Do you think he's got time to sort my iron head? Tell you what, he wouldn't have time for this nonsense if he lived near me. I'd keep him busy just patching up all my bodges. The man must be able to make metal sing and dance to any tune he decides to whistle!

"has she been to the pub?"   that's the scary bit greybeard she doesn't drink or smoke but puts up with my excess, her way of seeing things is sometimes very funny to me, but she say's things like she just said about the crank making a good hoover roller very seriously . I suppose because she's very arty her brain works in weird and wonderful ways *lol*

Well as an exercise for metalwork engineers it would be an interesting project .
As a motorcycle one word come to mind WHY ?
Z9's were a hanfull when new and a pig at any speed other than WFO
They were a problem to keep rubber up to the rear tyre.
So why would you wan a Z 1800.
More than enough specials made from shoving a car engin into a motorcycle frame to make an unrideable motorcycle.
