chroming

Looking for recommendations regarding chromers in the UK.
Have just finished prepping my project petrol tank. Phoned my usual chromers to make sure they were still in business as it's been a couple of years since I dealt with them - number not recognised. I used London Chrome - later Capital Chrome - for decades but looking at companies info I see they've liquidated.
Anyone have experience of UK chromers?

How far do you want to travel? I know two on the central South Coast.

Thanks REX - I'd be posting it. Quality of work / reasonableness of price are my main considerations. In OBM I see several advertising but know nothing about them. CRS in Folkestone offer a wide range of work so presumably are competent, but who knows? With the cost of chroming one doesn't want to find it flaking off or rusting through after just a couple of years.

Several in Old Bike Mart, been advertising in there years. I had a Dunlop rim done in Southend, might as well have chucked it off a cliff. Good luck.

Well, no, but you wouldn't want the finish to look like sh*t from day one either. I've been happy with the results of the two I'm thinking of.

Sad to hear London Chroming is no more. They triple plated all the bright work on my C11 in 1970, £70 the lot. It's still brilliant today.

I've just searched the net to try and find the company that did my tank. I don't recognise any of the names that came up. They were in Wolverhampton I think.

Neil, would that have been 'Chrome-Plating' of The Alpha Centre, Armstrong Way, Yate? Or there's Castle Chrome Plating in Dudley, W Midlands.

I should think so too! £70 in 1970 was about four weeks wages, so maybe £1500 now.

I just dug through my box of receipts from the build. I found the name ACF Howell at Croft Street Walsall WS2 8JR.Phone 01922 649992. They were very good for me. As well as the petrol tank they did a good job on the kick and gear levers. They specialise in vehicle work.

I never thought of that. I remember I thought it a good deal at the time, every single piece of brightwork including complete exhaust and rims. Must have been flush ant the time.

Hi to All,
I have been using Chomefix in Birmingham for both Chrome and Nickel, very good work for a very reasonable cost, they are excellent ar fixing/ preparing parts for plating.
For example: 17 parts for a 1948 modelU harley, some of them very big(primary cover, handlebars, air filter, speedo housing and many intricate parts for £750 incl vat and postage.

I'm thinking of using these, particularly as they seem to specialise in repairs prior to chroming.  They seem to come highly recommended, though I've no actual experience of using them.

Hi All,
I have had good and bad plating from the same place so it seems a bit random to recommend a particular shop
London chrome really f$#ked up some Morini parts on me!!
Alderney plating have done some great plating for me, recommended to me by satisfied customers. Not Cheap though!
But quality will shine on long after the price is forgotten!!!
