Clutch adapter wanted - where to buy?
« on: 21.01. 2020 22:44 »
From studying various places, it seems I need the adapter p/n 42-3170 to fit a 4-spring Triumph clutch to the A 10 gearbox mainshaft. Does anybody know where to get this piece? Someone mentioned the Tony Hayward adapter so I will talk to Tony tomorrow as well.
Thanks, Harty

These are available on the Ebay UK site at the moment. Use "42-3170" as your search words

try to buy an old one the new pattern parts can be a pain in the neck because the taper in them is not very accurate to line the clutch and crank sprockets as I found out the other day. I mentioned it in a topic called -- CLUTCH?

Hi Fergie,

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Clutch-Hub-Adaptor-4-Spring-BSA-A-B-Models/352535316611

As usual an ebay mis description
A and B adaptors have different "depth" tapers
probably one size fits neither *sad2*

Hi John, not to mention shoddy goods as well.  *sad2* My 5/16 reamer was a bit blunt, so ordered a new one via eBay trying to save the few bob. I got a reamer of sorts made in India. Total rubbish. Grrrrrrrrr

I always check for the country of manufacture and wary of anything from China or India - and I always try for a UK seller as it's quicker and friendlier for the environment.

I did buy from a UK seller on eBay. Quite a few UK sellers on eBay are selling goods made in China or India and when you purchase you do not know the country of manufacture.
When i contacted the seller, he was very apologetic and sent me on a replacement of far better quality.

Lack of knowledge of the goods being sold is often a problem on eBay i think. China and India both produce good and bad quality goods to cater to market demand.
If you want something cheap to keep your costs down as a reseller you can easily find them in both countries. If you want quality you will also find it in both countries, just don't expect to pay buttons for them.
