Thanks for all that. I suspect that at some point in the engines history somebody was indeed trying to deal with a blow-by/breather problem. I have 3 rocker covers and one of them has been drilled and fitted with a pipe nipple. None of this is going to be replicated in this new rebuild. I have 2 questions.
Is it normal for the stud holes to break through into the inlet tracts?
Are bolts better than studs for the carburetter? Neil's comment would appear to make a lot of sense but I've never had the engine in the frame as yet.
