Gear box cover Plate
« on: 13.05. 2020 18:15 »
Hi Everybody,

When cleaning up my gear box externals I noticed the side inspection plate was held on by 3 hex head screws and one plain screw.  It's right according to Haynes.  Can anybody tell me why?

Thanks and regards to all.

You are correct, that's how it should be, I'm racking my old brain trying to remember why, I did know but not quite sure at the mo, maybe a clearance issue I think, someone will be in here with the reason very shortly

Thanks Bill,  Not a big issue at all but I do like symmetrical things and was all set to replace the short screw until I saw it in the manual.  Never had the box in the frame yet but suspect you are correct about a clearance issue.  Regards, Len.

I think, and that may be dangerous, that the flat headed screw is positioned so that the gearbox can be moved back without it fouling the mounting plate thus giving slightly more adjustment.
