Agree Button.
« on: 27.08. 2020 22:00 »
Just a thought.... We have 'like' and 'karma' buttons how about an agree button?

Taking this to the ridiculous extreme, somebody comes on saying they took a plug cap off and now the bike only runs on one pot, what do I do?

Two people answer. One says put the cap back on the plug. The other says pump the tyres up.

One answer would get lots of 'agrees' the other wouldn't. This would give a good indication of which action to take first.

Just a thought?

I've seen some forums having a 'best answer' function. Will look into it, there may be some plug-in modification adding something more specific than what the general 'like' does.

Soooo, you made me stay up at night hunting for possibilities  ;)

Am a little weary of adding extras, they may produce unexpected forum errors or trouble later on, but let's test out the little green thing. Would have liked it to be only in the tech boards, but chosing boards ftm not available.

As for the button type and name, can be changed if anyone has some Good Advice.
More buttons can be added, f.ex. "Hoax" "Fake News" :O) rofl, just joking.

Of course, only logged-in members can vote but guests sees count.

My first thought is, it's a little close to the 'Like' button. My blunt finger tends to dab the Like button. Mind you, if I think the advice is good, I'm probably going like it as well.  *smile*

So 3 different kinds of 'likes', the latest green one, 'best answer' is still in a test phase. Any changes, that's the one that will go. Will see how it's used\accepted during future months. Please post your opinions about it here, which like do you like :O)

About layout > f.ex. button closeness  (applies mostly to phones\tablets) it won't be changed ftm. The current forum program is moving thanks to a collection of bits, gaffer tape and roadside fixes to still make it run, very sucessfully, but there's a limit\wall\ditch on the horizon. A new SMF forum program is coming (during next year, hopefully?maybe?), modernized and upgraded to align with all the tech\internet evolution we have been seeing happening for a decade.

Until then, the less internal changes (layout, additional features etc) done to the current version > the less potential problems when one day doing the upgrade.

If it’s not possible to move it, maybe ad a function of “unchecking” the “best answer” button? (As in “unlike” the like button)

Welcoming any comments about the 'green like', topic
yes I can imagine it being to close on a phone or tablet - could it just be moved to maybe an inch or two sideways

The green buttom seems consistently unused, so maybe the answer is to dispense with it?

I have used it to show that I think good advice was given, rather than liking for any other reason.

Perhaps users do not understand its purpose.

That seems like a good idea, (I checked the green button for that comment).

RD's right, not many clicks on the green button.

I click when I see what I know is good advice, so either folks don't know that it really is good advice, or can't be inclined to click, maybe being not experienced enough to know the score of what's good and what's erroneous.

Then of course it could be me that's misjudged a post in question big time, and once more about to step on the banana.

 Swarfy.

Additional. With few folks clicking, (possible) ill judged endorsements would become gospel, and unless there is greater participation it runs the risk of becoming unintentionally biased.  I try my best but get things wrong from time to time, as you all know.
