The point TT was making, I believe, was that if the distance between small and big ends is changed, the rod length and bumping clearance will be changed, but not the stroke, which is governed by the crankshaft.

I've, basically,  been following the approach and service sheet posted by KiwiGF here:

I polished the big ends for two reasons:

1. I didn"t think about (or know to think about) breakage there.

2. I like the way they look, though, in closeup photos, remaining imperfections are exagerated.

Thanks for the link Richard. Nothing wrong with polishing everything! On car engines with ferrous rods, we would have them shot peened after polishing. I've never heard of needing to do that with non-ferrous rods.

I weighed up all of my components tonight and everything is exactly equal! 750 kg total per side. I must be living right. I need to study the math associated with checking the balance factor in the link. I need the "balancing for dummies" version!
