Clutch lever- cable movement?
« on: 03.01. 2021 23:40 »
My SR has sexy Amal '70's alloy levers, but the leverage ratio results in only about 13mm movement of the cable (once freeplay is removed).
Not a lot. Not enough I think. (My Velo has well over 20mm- but a Velo clutch is a 'special case' eh?)
My bike has the 4-spring clutch, -I'm wondering how much cable movement / pivot length other people have?
I'll probably need to get new steel levers. They come in various pivot lengths (the Velo is 1 1/8") but I think 7/8" is the more common type.
I wonder what would be correct for the 4-spring clutch.

If you mean the open gap when the lever is pulled in following the cable line I have about 12 to 13mm no more with 4 spring clutch

That's interesting, I would have thought more. Ta berger.
(Yes, it's just the distance the cable pulls lengthwise, but obviously not including the free-play)

yes not including free play, I just about managed to subtract the 3mm or there abouts free play from the equation but had to strain my eyes in a semi dark garage. at the same time I gave her a pat and kicked her over [not on her side though] and tried the brake light out just to make it worth my while freezing my nuts off  *lol*. then I got back in the kitchen and nearly fell over the cat while chucking more fuel on the fire. *whistle*

Same here. SA lever pulls about 13mm. The plunger has got the longer pivot levers which give about 15mm of pull
