PWK carbs
« on: 14.05. 2021 19:24 »
Just having some thoughts about trying one of these cheap PWK jobbies  on the plunger rather than the possibly worn out, leaky old 276 Amal that it was born with.
Has anyone done this, and if so which one and where from? A link would be useful. Also any reports on how it performs would be good.
Thanks

G'day Minto.
The std jetting is close enough. I had to play a bit for the Cafe to run right.

Could you give me a price, it'll have to wait a while, the engine rebuild has gone over budget somewhat.
Are the JRC suitable for plunger models? Are they flanged? Do they come with alternative main and slow jets?
Cheers

they come with a copy of the amal flange with 2 inch hole centers, yes they will fit the plunger models, yes different pilot and main jets are available, will need a different  throttle cable, one for a concentric carb will do,  there are varying sizes available depending on what cylinder head is fitted, could be 26mm (just a bit over 1 inch) 28 mm or 30 mm.
the flange can be removed if you want a stub fitting.
visit my web site www.brillbikeparts.co.uk  prices on web site are out of date as it needs updating.

What made you decide to fit them to the Monza? (Interested, I have a V50 II)

the original carbs were worn out, mainly through lack of use, took the air box out and use a couple of cone air filters, works a treat , there is a cable conversion for the fuel enrichment which is not needed on the v50, but is on the v65.

OK thanks. Still running an all original set up on mine at just short of 70k miles. Always good to hear of alternative kit.

G'day Fellas.
The only problem I have with them (and the concentrics) is the fuel height (float height). With the slight downdraft when putting them on a twin port SS head if it's set to "factory" height they flood. 22m instead of 19mm so that the fuel height is level with the lowest point of the body/bowl joint. Running two 30's on the 684cc Cafe and now having to re-jet due to the altitude where I now live. It's a wonder you don't hear the swearing over there!

G'day Minto.
Just a bit when tuning a fire breather. The intake velocity is a lot slower with two carbs than a single so the std jetting is out the window. 42 pilot instead of a 35, then there's dozens of needles to sort through, main jet is the easy one.
It's a bugga I lost all my data (and spare jets, needles) in the fire.
Cheers

Was this the beast featured in Classic Bike mag a while back?
