OIL LEAK

goldenflash had not been started for 3 weeks but was running fine with no oil leaks when parked up .
well no big leaks , but when tried to start just blew all oil from somewhere under engine .
not had bike long and not had bsa before any help

Hi Jez, welcome to our happy forum.

It sounds to me like your bike has "wet sumped", meaning that oil has drained from the oiltank into the crank case. Its no big problem if you know how to deal with it.

If you use the search facility, you will find many hours of happy reading on the subject.

Basically Jez you need to start it and ride it more regularly, after all that's what you've bought it for right? Its the only way to get to know the bike and keep it happy, three weeks is a bit of neglect, mind you... I don't know your circumstances... 

To cure the wet sump, as its not a good idea to start it like that... Drop the oil into a clean bowl and place back in the oil tank. Then get to know the bike by reading all the excellent info here on the forum. Other than that give me an email and I'll offer you a good price for it.

hi jez you could get a sump plate with a magnetic drain bolt on it
from srm engineering or try ebay just type in bsa a10 most BSAs
wet sump if not used for a long time try to start her every week

 Thanks everyone for info sorted wet sump ,will keep on top of that little problem.
