G’day all. I’m a new BSA owner which is a beautiful UK 1960 Super Rocket & nacelle headlight. I’m noticing many diff photos of this same model & year & some are the nacelle & some with the twin tach/speedo. I’ve searched endlessly & can’t see where the line was with going from the speedo nacelle to dual clocks & wished to ask

G'day Maca.  *welcome*
I'm not 100% on when the Big Valve started, I thought 61-62. I don't think any came out with the narcelle.
A few pics of yours will settle the argument  *whistle*
Not a bad example bar the lecky ignition and Alton https://www.oldbikemag.com.au/1962-bsa-big-valve-super-rocket/

Hi All,
I thought the separate headlamp bikes were export models? or maybe special order?
My Brother has an original 59 Rocket that has the separate headlamp, and speedo, it has a detachable plate on the timing cover at the magneto position for a rev counter drive

Cheers John. A few more hours reading last night & finally i found a magazine article that confirmed this as well. They said it was the US models that had the twin clocks

I have an export 1962 model S/R. This has the twin tacho/speedo arrangement but also has the tacho drive from the oil pump.  It also has a deep metallic red paint ('Flamboyant'?) that I didn't think was used for home models until the unit motors came in. Can anyone confirm that?

Some Big Valves were exported to Australia. Fairly distinctive with twin clocks, plenty of chrome and short rear guard. Mine has a fully enclosed chainguard and siamese pipes.

The tacho was an optional extra for the UK market Super Rockets and standard fitment for the US market models.

Owner do sometimes convert to twin clocks, the 1960 on models were fitted with the rev counter oil pump as standard. It was blanked off on the nacelle equiped models.

The pages below are from the 1960 UK catalogue, second page show the r/c drive and the last lists the rev counter as a £7-16s-10d optional extra.

This factory parts bulletin shows a bigger Super Rocket inlet valve fitted from engine CA10R 9696.

Head part number 67 1548 is the casting with number 67 1549 with guides fitted.

That pic of the US Super Rocket brochure also shows the shorty chrome shrouds and gaiters that mine is fitted with. Also export only?

Below from the 1962 USA catalogue. Tbere may be some differences between US West Coast and US East Coast specifications. If fitted with the small tank option the tank badges would be round.
