« on: 02.05. 2022 00:23 »
Hi everyone,
Wondering how to identify a super flash tool box. Can someone supply dimensions and differences from a standard tool box?

Thanks,

It's the same toolbox as used on a C10L. Cheers

Hi. Sorry to cast doubt on this but I'm fairly certain that, that is not a correct Super Flash tool box!  Mine and all of the others that I have seen have a strange shape box that's almost mounted on its side to follow the rear guard better and fill in the space available.  Cheers, Pete

Yes, comparing internet images of the Super Flash there is  certainly something different. My parts book lists 67-9014 as Toolbox complete. Other parts listed are washers. nuts and clips to suit. The one you have is more the shape for the rigid standard frame.

Correct Superflash Oil tank is listed  as 67 8362,  again good chance this is based on the basic pressings used on another contemporary model from the range and outlined in previous posts. That one looks standard Plunger. Superflash is longer, again in the rigid frame style.

 Swarfy.

I would like to thank Superflash for his pic and measurements. It is a curiosity. I have never seen one like it on a Superflash. Your oil tank looks like the early one. I hope to find one of those some day.

Superflash, do you know when yours was built?

Could someone provide a picture of their tool box and measurements for comparison?

As the guys on here know, my bike was built piece meal from parts purchased front around the entire planet. Unfortunately there's a lot of clowns out there who either don't know what they're talking about or deliberately mislead the buyers in their descriptions. Example would be the tool box on mine. Someone told me that the superflash used a tool box off the C10L. Perhaps not correct after all. Given my intent was never about doing a faithful restoration a lot of what's on the bike is not genuine SF. Example would be the frame. 1951 GF. Cheers

Other than a couple of things, the lump is pretty much all SF. Couldn't find the triplex primary set up for love nor money so duplex it was.  The frame would never fit the TT carb so a monobloc went on instead.  Other improvements include SRM oil pump and dyno belt drive. For the casual observer the bike looks the part but I'm sure the purists would not be impressed. Apparently the bike my motor came from was one of the first to hit Australia. It obviously had a hard life as all that was left when I bought it was the cases, barrels, head and crank. Plus a few random but knackered bits and pieces. Cheers

Hi Superflash,

You do say it is a work in progress. Hopefully some day the correct bits will filter in. In the meantime you have machine you can enjoy.

There are some parts form other contemporary BSA's that were modified by the factory for the SF. One example is the petrol tank. It is nearly identical to a 1953 Competition B34 tank. The differences are: the front frame mount has provision for rubber on the B34 tank and the second is the rear extended SF mount. It is very easy to remove the rubber retaining cups from the front to leave the bare steel plate that the SF uses. A piece can be fabricated for the rear if one is ok doing it.

I wish a C10L toolbox would work. They are more common for sure.

Cheers,
Christian

Your oil tank looked SF when on the small screen on my phone. I thought there was a reflection in the paint that made it look like a typical A10 Plunger tank. Yet, on the laptop, I see that the tank is the usual A10 tank. If you had a SF tank on it, you would have had to modify the mounts to work with the standard A10 frame anyway.

Yep, she's a bitsa, and that's how she'll stay.

To be honest, at the time I was really after a Bonneville or Tiger engine to build into a chopper, but there was nothing to be had at the time. For some bazaar reason, this old BSA motor came up on fleabay and interested me. Prior to that I was strictly a Triumph and Harley man, so my knowledge and experience with Beeza's was nil.

It was only the fact that this whole Superflash thing was supposed to be a rare beast that I decided to go ahead and buy it instead of holding out for a Trumpy.

Again, the guys on the forum here will attest to my total ignorance about the entire BSA marque, and have given me untold help and advise getting me to where we are now. In saying that, opinions and new information received, not to mention difficulty in obtaining genuine parts tended to muddy the waters to the point where I gave up trying to stay true to the SF design. So I went my own way, and ended up with what I've got. I'm happy with it, and if others don't, then that's their prerogative.

It's an interesting toy, and has kept me amused, broke and occupied for the last couple of years. But have now finally got hold of a nice Bonnie that is getting the full restoration job, so the Beeza has been somewhat relegated for now.

Thanks guys.

Tony
