'ripple' hub wheel problem
« on: 09.08. 2022 01:26 »
Can't press the center tube out.  Not much for a wheel puller to grab on to.  I know it's been together for 74 years but . . .   Do I just put the hub in a vice and hit the tube harder

Well, the dust cap removal seems to be an issue.  I assumed it would be press fit.  Ain't budging.  I'll figure out a wheel puller thing, I guess.

I'll try that.  Some clever prying from opposite sides a once won't budge it.  Friction fit, you say?

Been there, got the tee-shirt. 🙄
Those dust covers are held on by friction. Finding an edge to drift against is not easy without bending the flat part. I bent mine getting it off but I was able to straighten it to reuse it. I reckon, back in the old days, those covers were a consumable during hub access. I did my best to make it easier to remove next time by smoothing both surfaces with emery cloth and applying grease.

As always, I thank you all.  New rims and spokes arrive tomorrow.
