Hi,

Can anyone confirm the correct / original colour for the fully enclosed reair chaincase for a 1961 A7SS.
The main paintwork was Polychromatic Green but I cant recall if the original case was also Green or in Black ?

Regards,

Des

I've seen them in both green and black, I think either is correct, but black is maybe more common and looks good in contrast - just my opinion though.

Thanks Andy,

Must be an age thing. I threw the original away in 1969 but for the life of me I can't recall the colour. have picked up a replacement which is in Black but needs a repaint. Same thing with the lining on the petrol tank, some are dark Green but I am sure mine was Gold.

Some had a dark green frame so the chaincase on such bikes was probably dark green. The ones with black frame would look right with a black chaincase.

I hate to use it as a reference, but p16 of the Bacon twin retoration book shows a '57 A7ss. Its a B&W picture but  the chainguard is the same colour as the tank.
I imagine it would have made sense for the factory to use black ones, they could be fitted on any bike no matter what colour the rest of it was.
Cheers,
iain

without reference I think the enclosed chain case was optional extra, so if the dealer ordered the bike with encl guard maybe it was colour matched and if supplied at point of sale was possibly a std part (also fitted to A10, RR etc) and painted black.  Either way seems OK, its up to your personal taste.
  Cheers,   Bob.
