'Introduced towards the end of 1953, the 150cc D3 Bantam Major was the first step in the development of the evergreen lightweight, and the larger-finned cylinder barrel and head were also adopted for the D1 models. One long-distance adventurer, Miss McKean, used a D3 for her 30,000-mile marathon journey from New Zealand to England, where she is seen outside the offices of BSA Motor Cycles Ltd. The names of the countries she rode through were painted on the tank, and there was a map on the other side.'
