Has Rivett man Worked on my Bike ?

Was Gobsmacked when i took the back  wheel out of my Gf swing arm, never noticed at first until started to clean and check the sprocket and bearing .....WHOOOOOAA !!! surely it couldnt be him could it ? someone had welded up the short part of axle thats in the sprocket , looks like it had been cracked and welded in 2 places then ground off and refitted . Scary or what ?   *work* *work*

 Check the wheel spindle and its thread .....that may have been played with to get the sorry ensemble to fit. A lucky escape and one for the "Great Mechanical Disasters" photo gallery.

Reminded me of one of the phrases used often at a local boatyard in the 70's & 80's when something wasn't quite right - 'marginal'. Applied to everything from a tired mainsheet to a loose keel.
