G'day RD.
The ci sleeve was cast in originally. To replace it needs to be bored out and new sleeve shrunk in.

I doubt if a simple bore job will remove that gouge. A 2nd hand barrel may be cheaper. https://tinyurl.com/5azfsjfw

Thanks Musky, my barrel is the later square type but well spotted. The gouge looks worse in the pic than it is, a rebore will either remove it completely or at least reduce it to being “negligible” (but I could be wrong). PESltd in the UK offer a new liner service should that become necessary, and could do that for $$$  *eek* during my planned visit to UK  in April, if I take the barrel with me (they also offer a 475cc conversion  *smile*).

I will take some pics of the barrel, the head gasket arrangement is a bit unusual and affects the “plate” method of supporting it during a rebore.
