The weird angled cylinder head bolt

I've done a lot of bigger vehicle and stationary engines and I thought that the bolts being 90 degrees to the block was a rule.  My parts book shows 7 bolts, all the same length.  But my motor has six of one length and the short center one at an angle.  How long did that go on?

Yes I do member (that's odd) the real early long strokes having one at an angel but never seen it in the flesh.
By the way but don't think it will matter but those "wasted" bolts are for the much latter alloy heads. Just check the lengths so they don't bottom out.

You have no idea of the endless joy that is finding The 179th vertical twin as a totally gutted basket case. The classic seemed-like-a-good-idea-at-the-time project.  I couldn't have gotten where I am without all y'all.

Angled head bolts are a nightmare - ask anyone who ever worked on a Triumph Dolomite or Stag.

The angled head bolt had me wondering when I did mine, ‘48 LS, but so far seal seems good. Due for a re-torque in another 150 miles and we will see.
