What front brake?
« on: 27.03. 2023 13:42 »
Sorry for asking more questions.
Does anyone know what this front brake is from? I don't think it's standard 1960 A10 Golden Flash. *conf*

I think I know, but no need for me to guess, as others will be definitive. However, the reason your question got my attention is because I thought you were asking what I have often asked myself when squeezing the lever thingy above the throttle. I'll soon see if my recent brake rebuild will change the question to "Why is it so easy to fly over the handlebars?"

Thank you. Now you've said i just had a look over on the Draganfly website and it is the one. I now know what spares to get when ordering.
Are they better front brakes?

The TLS brake you have is much better than the standard cast iron full width hub type, which is what I have on my '62 SR, but if it's set up correctly, it's still a good brake.

That's good to know.
Is there anyway of telling if it has been a complete front wheel swap from the A65 or a rim and drum laced up?

G'day Catz.
Yes as Roger said it's a 69 as the 68 has the cable coming in from a 10 o'clock direction.
I think there's a difference with the break plate anchor. Do a search for "tls front brake". A few fellas here have done it.

Also fitted to Triumphs of the same era. There were 2 different versions of the plate levers.

I had a Triumph tr25w many years ago with a twin leading shoe on the front, and it was an excellent anchor capable of lifting the rear wheel. I think that was a smaller version of what you have there.
God that bike was good fun in London traffic.

Hi Cats,
The A65/Triumph brake plate anchor needs building up to securely fit to the A10 fork leg. Have a close look to see if they made a good job of this *????*
I have seen bikes where the DPO did not do this and the brake plate was barely engaged in the fork leg *eek*

Thanks for the advice John.
This one seems to have been done properly as it's a pretty snug fit.
The previous owner was a bit of a bodge-job Harry in places but this seems like one his better efforts.

The other (better) option is to use the A65 lower sliders/forks.
