Cheers Roger,

Looks like a possibility, but how do you get a socket onto that? The shaft is far longer than my deep sockets (and the nut bigger), although I do have a full quota of large Whitworth ring spanners.

I use the SRM nut. It is 1 1/2 inch AF size. I use a 50cm long ring spanner to tighten it ( and put my foot on the spanner to make sure it is dead tight) and use loctite on the thread.

I have found the rear chaincase bolt troublesome. Almost impossible to fit with the rear tin chaincase in place. When I bought my A10 back in 1973 it did not have one fitted and apart from one attempt to fit one the bike has not had one fitted in those past 52 years of regular use. Nothing has broken or fractured or otherwise failed.

If the cush drive nut is in good condition and not chewed up by being tightened with a punch then a Peugeot 405 ball joint tool can be used. Cheap enough on ebay. The one below takes a 35mm socket.
