Side stand bracket thing
« on: 07.06. 2026 15:53 »
I'm looking for just the thing in the title. Seem to be like the proverbial rocking horse. Anyone have one? It's part number 42-4776 or 65-4739 or 65-4743 in the diagram. Thanks.

Hi Catz,
The proverbial rare thing,
One sold on ebay a couple of weeks ago,
£200 *eek*.
A replica UK made stand and mounting lug look to be a similar price now?
I paid £155 for one a couple of years ago *ex*

Some years ago a member here sent me one that I was able to repair and reshape, hopefully lightning will strike twice and you will get lucky

I can see the clamp on type, which is starting to look like an option, and Andrew at Priory Mags lists one on his site at £190 though i've not been in touch with him.
The clamp on type might be good with a blob of weld either side of the clamp to stop it moving.

I've got a clamp - on fitted to my SR - works fine, but I wouldn't recommend starting it on the stand just in case.
Cost about £30.

It does sound like a good option.  I don't think i've ever tried to start my A10 with it on the side stand. Doesn't seem safe.

On mine I drilled and tapped the front part of the clamp and fitted a grub screw. Welding it seemed too "permanent" for something of doubtful metallurgy though.
I never start any bike on the sidestand anyway.

Seems like everything is a replica these days. I'm renovating another CX500 and most of the stuff available is a replica though some parts are still available. As long as it's good quality there shouldn't be a problem.
Is that side stand of a duff variety?

A lot of the bikes imported back from the US have busted and bent side stands and mounting brackets. Seems like it's an American thing to start them up on the side stand, puts a lot of strain into them, they don't do well with it.

Harley stands are engineered to cope but the British always assumed you would start your bike off the stand with your legs astride it.

Some of the videos on YouTube of Americans starting their charrpers and barrrbers on the sidestand are quite alarming.
Kneeling on the saddle, jumping on the kick-start, etc all on the spindly sidestand just look cruel.
