Mr Shells,
It seems that when the plunger frame was introduced the rigid gained the "R" to differentiate from the plunger's "S".
My '51 frame has the "R" but the '47 doesn't.
Trev.

Its a 51' rigid frame and like Trev says the rigids seem to have the R stamped in them. The interesting thing is most dating information available doesnt seem to mention the R but always notes the S with the spring frames.

I've added a scan from the parts book, note that it has the S with the spring frames but no R with the rigids.

Just one of those odd things.
