Sore bum
« on: 10.01. 2010 10:41 »
I went out riding with Josh today, and came back with a sore bum!

Well, he was bringing up the rear!

Seriously, too many of the springs in the saddle can be felt after a while.
I have only done 1,000 miles on the saddle.

Do other members have improvements to recommend for the saddle seat (apart from replacing it with with the later unsprung seat?).

(I am considering taking it to an upholsterer and requesting more padding between the matress springs and the vinyl)

Thanks,

Richard

Well us lot up here in the northern hemisphere are currently having to wear two three pairs of insulating undies, leathers, water/snow proof over trousers and are quite comfy in all that. As for those in the southern hemisphere and with your heat wave your currently getting, wearing bikini's is bound to be harsh on the old backside. Your rump hardens the more you ride, go for another thousand miles!  *smile*  *lol*

You can buy gell pads, not sure how one would fit on a saddle type seat though, still necessity is the mother of invention so they say.

Now then Richard....we all know what BSA stands for don't we!!  Bloody sore whatsits!!  Well, your BSA is only living up to its name.

No pain...no gain can be the expression of the day.  But(t) (excuse the pun), the more you use the bike the more you will enjoy using it.

Maybe you could try one of those small "Inflateable" pillows you get from camping shops!!  Or put a shaped piece of sponge in a polythene bag!!  Just a thought.

My long-haul BSA has a dual seat covered with a type of gel pad.

I know if the back part of the saddle ( the ridge where the springs attach) is the problem you can reposition the springs to the top edge and recover it for more comfort. It wont be digging into your behind.

Hi Richard
I had a lambskin made for my A7 for Alaska leather.  Here is their website  http://www.alaskaleatheronline.com  .   You can probably find a supplier in Australia.  Jeff

G'day Richard,
I had mine re-upholstered extra padding as well as putting the springs over the top edge. Very comfy now. The wife recons with my boney a--e the saddle should be the one complaining.
Is Josh back over there ? Haven't seen him here since start of his trip.
Cheers
