A10 Plunger Flash Frame Alignment
« on: 03.03. 2010 23:33 »
Hi

I have now stripped the old paint, cleaned the frame, removed the headstock cups and now need to check the headstock alignment with the plunger shafts at the rear. I have inserted a sturdy pipe through the headstock and assembled the plunger shafts. The idea was to use a spirit level on the head stock pipe and then see if the plunger shafts are vertical. Measurement is difficult as either the plunger shafts or the headstock can be vertical at one time. I will try with the frame on its side tomorrow night.

However the plunger shafts are not parallel - I assume they should be. The bottom is 3/16" wider than the top. Can someone tell what the correct distance should be to the shaft centre lines. I will use a jack on the lower frame and a car spring compressor to pull the top frame in.

Has anyone any tips on how to check the headstock alignment with the plunger shafts? Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks Stu

I dont have one for the swingarm A frames but this one is a 54' GoldStar frame. I would think the basic geometry would be the same.

OK now think have aligned frame. Used laser level to draw line from headstock down cross bar through middle of plunger shafts. Then used spring compressors and chocks to bend frame back to measurements on drawing.

Thanks for the help.

I have the same problem Stu55. How did you hold the frame and what did you pull against ?
