Favour please. Rear brake cable outer length..

Could I ask a favour please? Trying to work out the difference between a rear brake cable for the 1958-1960 bikes and the 1960-1963..

I've been sold a pattern that I don't think is right, despite the part number being correct. Seller is a great , helpful guy so no problem there but it'll be a b*gg*r to fit as the outer is longer than the original..

Could anyone with a '61-63 bike with cast iron hubs measure the outer length for me please??

Hope this makes sense - cable measurements from 1962 Super Rocket note cable 30 years old?

Overall length of inner cable  hole center to end of ball  20''

Overall length of outer case 12 5/8''  - this to the shoulder that into the bracket on the frame.

Inner wire lenth to outer case - measurement from hole centre to end outer case 6''  (adjuster end) all the slack pulled out.

Not sure if this is a help but there is some adjustment on the arm where ball end seats, mine is set about 11 o'clock position, think I have photo if required?

Hi Nick,
That's very useful, many thanks for your trouble.. I think the old one on my bike is the same age as yours, similar dimensions. I reckon the pattern part makers have tried to make one that fits both types and failed.. It goes back I'm afraid, nice quality but no use if it's too long..

As for Dundry, no problem saying hello - I get a great view of it from upstairs at the back of the house (we live in Long Ashton!!)....
